THANK-YOU NOTES
Open days and charity events at Wavering Down House and Gardens have so far raised more than £75,000 for good causes.
Highlights at Frankie Howerd’s former home in Cross, near Cheddar, Somerset, UK, have included:
An Up Pompeii party
A concert with The Wurzels
A classic car rally
Opera by singer Tim Pitman
Jazz in the Garden
Tribute bands Abba 2 Bjorn Belief and Kings of Queen
Many charities, primarily in the South West of England, have been helped by money raised at these events.

Wedmore Twinning Association, Somerset
January, 2007Many thanks for the cheque for £322.26 received recently, being our ‘share’ of the gate money and other ‘takings’ from the events you organised at Wavering Down during last summer. This amount, together with what we raised by providing refreshments, brings our total to over £500. We are very grateful to you for the opportunity to have participated in the activities at your lovely home.
October, 2006
‘Merci beaucoup’ for allowing members of the Wedmore Twinning Association to do cream teas and other refreshments at Wavering Down on May 07 this year. The day was well supported, which we feel was due partly to the heightened public awareness of the event as a result of the timely coverage in the Cheddar Valley Gazette. We have had links with our Twin Town of St Medard de Guizieres for over 30 years. Unfortunately, the financial support we used to receive from local government and the EU for our efforts to continue this cultural exchange has dwindled in recent years until now we receive nothing. The chance you gave us to raise money was therefore all the more welcome — and I am sure Frankie Howerd would have been tickled pink to know that his country retreat had helped us to ‘Carry On Twinning’!
